  • Over a BILLION Litres of Water Saved

ExactET has just joined an exclusive club. Since the company began operation in 2006, it has saved its clients ONE BILLION litres of potable water.

"Last year, we were ecstatic when we saved 245 millions of water, enough liquid gold to fill the iconic Calgary Tower ten times," said Graham Duffy, CEO and co-founder of ExactET Systems Inc.

"But thanks to people realizing the benefits of Climate Controlled Irrigation, we managed to beat even that number in 2011."

Duffy added, "To be exact, we saved 312 million litres of potable water - which, according to City of Calgary guidelines, is equivalent to the savings from 7,700 low flow toilets."

  • Mid-Season Results Encouraging

ExactET, Canada's leader in climate controlled irrigation, this week reported the 2011 mid-season results, comparing irrigation frequencies generated across Canada from using climate-based systems versus conventional timer based systems. The report highlights average irrigation frequency savings from using a climate controlled system ranged from 36.4% (in Kamloops) to 81.4% (in Vancouver)for the season up to July 30, 2011.

A slower start to the summer season across most of Canada gave way to much hotter and drier conditions and with it higher irrigation frequencies. Overall temperatures averaged out through the entire summer (the months of June, July and August) to be close to the long term forecast for much of Canada. Precipitation levels however varied from city to city across Canada largely because of the hit and miss nature of showers and thunderstorms during the summer months.

"All of our clients did well this summer," said Graham Duffy, CEO of ExactET. "It did not matter if it was an industrial site, a downtown office block, a shopping mall or a private residence. Everybody saved water and thus money.

"The cold, wet summer might not have been to everyone's liking, but to our patrons the inclement weather led to a financial bonanza in irrigation savings."

All told, ExactET clients saved a grand total of 245 millions of potable water, with companies such as Tonko Realty Advisors (30 million litres), Bentall (24 million litres), Real Canadian Superstores (21 million litres) and Ivanhoe Cambridge (17 million litres) heading the pack. [read more]

In an exclusive story broken by veteran Calgary Sun columnist, Rick Bell, Mayor Naheed Nenshi says consumers will have to pay significantly more for water in coming years to help slash the debt of $1.3 billion in the city's water and sewer system.
